FAQ: Choosing Thin-Wall Aluminum Tubing
What is a drawn aluminum tube vs. an extruded aluminum tube?
All of our aluminum tubing is first extruded from a die. After extruding, for applications requiring tight tolerances, the tubing is then drawn over a mandrel (DOM). This secondary drawing process results in tubing with a very tight tolerance on Outside Diameter, Wall Thickness, and Ovality (how round the tube is). Drawn tubing is particularly useful for telescoping applications as well as applications where tubing will be concentrically machined.
What aluminum tube finishes are available?
Mill finish means raw aluminum tubing the way it comes out of the mill or press. We also stock Silver and Black tubing. On most round tubing shapes our Silver finish is an Silver Anodized Aluminum Tube, and the Black finish is a Black Anodized Aluminum Tube. Do check the product page to confirm as some shapes are stocked in painted finish instead of anodized.
Where is the aluminum tubing made? Are there tariffs I need to worry about?
The vast majority of our aluminum tubing is Made in the USA. All our tubing is stocked in Hackensack NJ. We never charge our customers a tariff for shipments inside the USA. If you need to confirm US origin for a particular shape or order, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
